Denovo Chairside Space Maintainer System
Primary dentition plays a crucial role in pediatric dentistry. Premature loss or extraction of primary molars can lead to serious consequences, such as tooth shifting. Space maintenance is therefore essential—but requires quick and efficient intervention.
Traditional methods involve multiple visits, impressions, and costly, time-consuming lab work.
The Denovo Chairside Space Maintainer system simplifies the entire process of creating and seating a custom, unilateral band-and-loop space maintainer.
The entire 3-step procedure can be performed chairside, in just a few minutes, during a single visit—before the patient's anesthetic wears off:
- Try on the space maintainer band.
- Insert the wire, adapt it to the interdental space, and crimp the tubes.
- Cement the maintainer in place.
No more multiple visits and expensive lab equipment!
The Denovo Chairside Space Maintainer system allows for quick guidance of erupting permanent teeth, ensuring effective treatment, healthy smiles, and satisfied patients.
Technique
Begin by selecting 1-3 approximate band or crown sizes from the Denovo Space Maintainer kit and try them on the tooth adjacent to the gap.
A properly fitted band should slide onto the tooth snugly, with slight resistance—the better the fit, the greater the appliance's durability.
If the band was tried on but not fully seated, it should be sterilized and returned to the kit.
Wires come in narrow and wide versions, suited for smaller and larger bands. In the Denovo kit, band sizes are color-coded according to their corresponding wire type.
Types of wires and their application:
- Drop wires – bent upwards, prevent penetration into the gum.
- Plain wires – very pliable, can be easily adapted to various clinical situations.
- Occlusal rest wires – provide additional stability and support by bending onto the occlusal surface.
- Distal shoe – once properly placed and confirmed with an X-ray, can be inserted subgingivally when the first permanent molar has not yet fully erupted.
Trim the selected wire (if necessary), insert it into the tubes, reseat the band, and thread the wire through the gap to maintain space. Gentle bending of the loop to match the natural gum contour prevents tissue irritation.
Crimp the tubes with a firm, circular motion to securely fix the wires. Finally, cement the finished maintainer using your preferred glass ionomer cement.
