Types of wires and their applications:

• Drop wires – bent upwards, prevent penetration into the gum.
• Plain wires – very pliable, can be easily adapted to various clinical situations.
• Occlusal rest wires – provide additional stability and support by bending onto the occlusal surface.
• Distal shoe – after proper placement and confirmation with an X-ray, can be inserted subgingivally when the first permanent molar has not yet fully erupted.
